Careers at African Parks

Effective conservation and sustainable development depend on people. Across Africa, thousands of professionals work together with communities and governments to ensure protected areas are managed for the long term and continue to support both ecosystems and livelihoods.

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation responsible for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with communities and governments. The organisation currently manages 24 protected areas across 13 countries, covering more than 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

More than 5,000 staff contribute to the management of these landscapes, and 97% of employees are nationals of the African countries where African Parks operates. Teams work across many disciplines including community development, conservation operations, ecological monitoring, tourism, finance, communications, fundraising, technology, infrastructure and park management.

Every role contributes to ensuring that protected areas are effectively managed and able to support well-functioning ecosystems and resilient communities. Park teams work alongside communities and governments to manage landscapes, so they remain ecologically viable, socially responsible and financially sustainable over the long term.

Working at African Parks

Working at African Parks means contributing to the long-term stewardship of protected areas through collaboration, accountability and practical implementation.

The organisation brings together professionals with a wide range of expertise and backgrounds. Some work directly in protected areas supporting day-to-day operations. Others contribute through regional teams and organisational functions that support park management across the network.

What connects everyone is a shared commitment to ensuring that protected areas are effectively managed and continue to deliver ecological, social and economic value across the landscapes where they operate.

Our Values

Our values guide how we work with each other, how we approach conservation challenges, and how we collaborate with governments and communities across the protected areas we manage.

Passion
We are driven by a deep commitment to Africa, its conservation landscapes, and the people connected to them.

Accountability and Results
We take responsibility for the outcomes of our work. Teams are accountable to the mission of African Parks and are responsible for delivering tangible results through effective management.

Partners First
Protected areas are managed in partnership with governments and communities. Collaboration, shared responsibility, and recognising the contributions of others are central to how we operate.

Integrity and Transparency
We uphold the law and apply the same standards to ourselves as we do to others. We believe in openness and honesty, sharing both challenges and successes.

Resilience and Courage
Conservation is complex and often difficult. Our teams approach challenges with perseverance and a ‘dare to’ attitude, working through setbacks and learning from mistakes.

A Culture of Learning
Progress comes from doing the work. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn, improve, and strengthen how we operate.

Have Fun
Working in conservation is a privilege. We encourage teams to stay connected to the purpose of their work and the landscapes they help manage.

What Our People Say

Simon Tabashabira
Regional Finance Manager
"As long as you are principled, as long as you are disciplined, you will have results. And a sense of belonging. That’s a fact. I now have 20 years in conservation. There is no other field I have worked in. This is my life. "
Aché Beïne Ahma
Control Room Operator
"I admit that I really love my job and living in the bush. At first, I didn't know what conservation was, and I had only seen animals on television. Women can also work in the park and stay in the bush. This allows us to be in charge of ourselves and learn new things. "
Clementine Uwamahoro
Regional Conservation Technology Manager
"My Job is so special. I get to see what others pay for. And I get paid for it. I am proud of where I am right now. I would encourage people who like conservation and technology to follow my steps. They have to be persistent. Sometimes things will not go the way you expect, but do not give up. "
